It climbs like jasmine, its flowers look and smell like jasmine- but still it is not a jasmine! We are talking about Star Jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides) which is native to Asia. In contrast to True Jasmine (Jasminum officinale) this climber keeps its glossy leaves all-the-year. Young leaves in spring are slighly reddish. Also, the leaves change colour to shiny red in autumn, depending on the way the plant was wintered. The fragrance of the wheel-shaped, snow-white summer flowers is very intense but not obtrusive. These slowly growing, robust climber therfore derserve a seasonal place on balcony, terrace or in a winter garden or - in regions with mild climate- a permanent spot in the garden. You can plant Star Jasmine in the garden provided some shade for the branches in winter and covering the roots with dry leaves.
